Seminar series and locations.
The first in the series will be at New Bern Convention center in North Carolina "Saltwater Sportsman" magazine's national seminar series comes to the Riverfront Convention Center in New Bern on Saturday, Jan. 7. The seminar will feature presentations on locating and catching many of this region's most popular saltwater species such as king mackerel, speckled trout, red drum and striped bass. Presenters will include Capt. Tom Roller, head of the Atlantic Beach-based Waterdog Guide Service; Capt. Ron Whitaker, Hatteras offshore captain; Capt. George Beckwith, Jr. of Oriental, who guides on the lower Neuse River, Pamlico Sound, Roanoke River and in Costa Rica; and Capt. Jimmy Price of Southport, a noted flounder and speckled trout expert. A number of other fishing professionals will share tips and techniques relevant to our coastal waters.
The "Saltwater Sportsman" seminar will begin at 9 a.m. and conclude at 4 p.m. A $55 admission fee will include a $40 discount coupon for merchandise at West Marine, a one-year subscription to "Saltwater Sportsman" magazine, a seminar textbook, and a number of fishing accessories. In addition, each participant will be entered in a raffle for a fishing trip for two to the Caribbean and the seminar grand prize, a 2006 Mako center console sport fisherman powered by a 200 h.p. Mercury outboard.
