Re: Lefty's lures?
Myself and Lefty were having breakfast at the Atlantic Highlands Dinner in NJ. a few years ago. I pulled out a plug that looked like one of his Lefties. With one exception I named mine RIGHTY. He had such a good laugh about that one and told me I could have named it Lefty as well. But I never changed that name as it was a perfect name for an imperfect duplication of his much beloved plug.
He also spent the next hour telling me exactly how he made his plugs. Such generosity from a great innovator. I treasured the time we spent together over breakfast that morning! The stories he told my good friend Louie G. and me of how he started making plugs and his techniques.
Now I make a better plug after much trial and error and would never put myself in Lefties class or many other NJ plug makers. But it is sure is fun trying to attain perfection. After all there is nothing like making a great plug and catching bass with them. Or giving one away and watching the joy on someone face when they get one of your plugs. Something lefty lived with for many years, except he was paid for his art work and perfection. I was truely amazed by his sons talents in making plugs. His finishes were incredible. I wished I actually bought a number of his plugs. I have a few Lefties when they cost me $30. But I have none of his sons. ...........Paul from Leonardo NJ.
PS. my avatar is not one of my plugs I wish it was. It is also one of the best made plugs I have ever seen! I tried to duplicate it, but failed.
