Salary dump. Good young prospects. Must be a Florida thing. Laurie does the same with the Marlins although he was successful at it.

Brett Boone has announced his retirement from Met Camp.
Billy Wagner withdrew from the world classic citing that his arm isnt ready.
Several players have withdrawn for a variety of reasons.
Manny Ramirez showed up in today for Bostons camp and announced he wont be playing in the World classic.
If your a fan there is no way you want to see your teams star get hurt in an exibition in the spring that is meaningless.

The Indianapolis 500 had better TV ratings than the 2006 world series. it did an 11.4 as opposed to an 11.2 for the White Sox / Astros.

I'm glad to see Wagner pulling out. It shows he means business, which is exactly what the Mets need. I also hope Pedro pulls out completely, we need him completely healthy for the season.

Pedro has pulled out. The Dominican team is good enough without him. Although Vlady pulled out as well.
Its odd to see Jim Lefebre coaching the Chinese team.
They lost 18 to 2 to Japan and 10 to 2 to Korea.
Id rather watch a spring training game.

Pedro is all of a sudden uncertain if he will be well enough to be the opening day starter against the Nationals now.

Man who attacked coach during White Sox game gets prison term

CHICAGO (AP) -- The man who attacked Kansas City Royals coach Tom Gamboa during a game has been sentenced to almost five years in prison for a probation violation.
Cook County Court Associate Judge Joseph M. Claps ruled Friday that William Ligue Jr. violated probation when he was charged in April 2004 with breaking into a car in suburban Harvey and leading police on a brief chase. Claps increased Ligue's sentence to 57 months in prison.
"Despite what (the original judge) decided to do in the case -- to give him a chance, he ignored that chance," Claps said.
Ligue was originally sentenced to 30 months of probation for two counts of aggravated battery in the September 2002 attack on Gamboa during a Chicago White Sox game at U.S. Cellular Field.
Ligue and his 15-year-old son beat the first base coach, resulting in a loss of hearing for Gamboa. Ligue's son was sentenced to five years' probation.
Assistant public defender Ed Ptacek said he planned to appeal the ruling.
Ligue's trial on the burglary charge is scheduled to begin Tuesday.

Former baseball star Dwight Gooden was ordered held without bond Wednesday and faces up to five years in prison for violating the terms of his probation.
Gooden will appear in court for a hearing sometime in the next two weeks, prosecutor Pam Bondi said.
The 41-year-old Gooden pleaded guilty in November to speeding away from police after a DUI traffic stop in August 2005 and was sentenced to three years probation. On Tuesday, he went to a regular meeting with a probation officer where he admitted to using cocaine, according to Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections.
"He went to his regular meeting with his probation officer, admitted to using cocaine, according to Jo Ellyn Rackleff, a spokeswoman for the Department of Corrections.
"He went to his regular meeting with his probation officer, admitted to the officer that he had used cocaine. She did a drug screen, and he tested positive for cocaine," Rackleff said.
Gooden was then arrested and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail, Rackleff said.

Time to retire the hot stove. The season has started.

Gotta love Pedro.
Plunked three batters leaning out over the plate. Guillen twice, the second time Guillen had to be restrained by the ump. No fear in Pedro. He's old school.
Dive out over the plate and take your chances of gettin plunked with a 90 mph heater. He batted the next inning with the bases loaded and hit a two rbi single. Not his best win but a win.
He told Guillen "I dont mind you getting mad but dont come out here with a bat in your hand, Im not afraid of you." :)

I can always tell, your football team is 9-3 and leading the division by 2 games and all the sports talk radio is yapping about is where is Manny going?

Wow. I hadnt realized the Pats were 9 and 3.
My Giants are taking a tumble.

Is that Ruth in the middle on the bottom row?

It doesnt look like the Dodgers after all. They arent willing to part with Broxton and Kemp. Mannys value is less because they think he's a head case.
San Diego has Jake Peavy to dangle for him.
