In regards to manny, Randolph stated before the trade deadline that if Manny were to come to the Mets he would not tolerate any of his antics. I don't know if Manny would be happy anywhere he goes at this point. I wonder about San Franscico though. It's in the west and SF is going to lose their slugging leftfielder with an attitude problem within a year if not less. Manny would fit right in.

With Wagner, one local paper had him quoted as saying that each career move he has made has brought him closer and closer to playing in a major city. There is also almost any kind of town he could want within an hour from the stadium. I'm still optomistic even if what Larry Bowa says about him is true. Any amount of Wagner throwing well is better than Looper throwing injured. And we have Heilman who showed that he could potentially save games last September.

Latest News:

Carlos Delagado and 7 million dollars to the Mets for pitcher Yosemuri Petit and First Baseman catcher Mike Jacobs.

Arron Rowand to the Phillies for First Beseman Jim Thome.

First Delagado. This makes me think Manny stays in Boston. The mets will stop pursuit of Manny unless they trade Delagado and the 7 million for Manny. Which I doubt even though with the loss of Millar the Sox dont have a first baseman. (And neither will the mets without Jacobs).
You have to make the Delagado deal for Jacobs and Petit. Its a no brainer. In this case, Minaya capitalized on the values of Petit and Jacobs, while keeping his most prized prospect, OF Lastings Milledge. If Minaya softens his pursuit of Ramirez, Milledge will remain a Met. Milledge is seen by many in baseball as a star in the making. With Wright, Reyes and Milledge, and a new crop of young pitchers on the way, such as LHP Philip Humber, RHP Mike Pelfrey and RHP Gaby Hernandez. The Mets are finally in the right direction it would seem.
Now second base and the corner outfielders will need to be addressed.
Billy Wagner will come to New York only if "My wife is happy there" .
The mets are looking at Baez from Tampa Bay Devil Rays and Baltimores BJ Ryan. The latter of whom I think will be the best fit for the mets.
The Sox can still look at Aubrey Huff from the Devil Rays to play first base. His name has been mentioned in talks with the mets. Now that they have gotten Delgado, barring a blockbuster 3 way with the Red Sox and the Devil Rays they still have starting pitching (Trachsel Seo and Heilman) to dangle to the Devil Rays or Orioles.

Thome for Rowand. Phillies get youth and a centerfielder. Sox get a DH replacement for Frank Thomas or first base security if Konerko leaves. Lets hope last years injury plagued season for Thome wasnt due to something missing in his diet. Like clean and clear. ;)
Podsednik moves back to center his natural position so their pursuit of Juan Pierre fizzles. Now they'll be in the hunt for Brian Giles with the Yankees.

The deal is very reminicent of the Piazza trade. 3 prospects, including Preston Wilson and a pitching prospect to the Marlins for Piazza. There are mix of feelings among the people i talk to. Rightfield and firstbase down; Closer catcher and second base to go

Reports out of Boston that Seattle and Ichiro is a possibility for Manny. Manny is a 10 and 5 and can Veto it.

Omar Minaya has offered contracts to 2 free agent catchers for 2 years at 8 million per to Benjie Molina and Ramon Hernandez. Hernandez is 4 years younger at 28 years old. Shrewd move to keep the price down. Whomever jumps first gets it.

With the lack of free agent talent available expect the winter meetings that begin next week to be full of trades and even some blockbusters. This years free agent pool is the worst one in 20 years. Most teams will be quite busy filling holes.

Paul Konerko signs 5 year deal with White Sox worth 60 million, rejects 5 years at 65 with Baltimore Orioles.
Oakland A's Agree to Three-Year Deal With Estaban Loiaza
The deal, worth $21,375,000, includes a 2009 club option. Loaiza went 12-10 with a 3.77 ERA for the Washington Nationals last season, the second-best win total in his 11-year major league career. He won 21 games for the Chicago White Sox in 2003.
SAN DIEGO - Right fielder Brian Giles reached a preliminary agreement Wednesday night to re-sign with his hometown San Diego Padres for $30 million over three years. The two-time All-Star will earn $9 million per season from 2006-08, with a $9 million option for 2009 that could raise the value of the deal to $36 million over four years. The club has a $3 million buyout for 2009.
Free agent infielder Abraham Nunez and the Phillies agreed Tuesday to a $3.35 million. Nunez likely will platoon at third with David Bell, who hit just .199 against right-handers last season. Nunez hit .277 against right-handers last year.
For his career, Nunez has hit .248 with 16 homers and 161 RBIs in eight seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates and one with the Cardinals.
The Philadelphia Phillies moved to strengthen their depleted bullpen, agreeing Wednesday to an $800,000, one-year contract with free agent reliever Julio Santana.
The 31-year-old right-hander, who got $800,000 in a deal that includes performance bonuses, was in 41 games last season for Milwaukee and went 3-5 with a 4.50 ERA. In 42 innings, Santana allowed 34 hits, walked 19, struck out 49, and opponents batted .221 against
Rumor Mill Reports are that the agent for Kyle Farnsworth has told that to the Atlanta braves that his client has agreed to sign with the Yankees.

Tom Gordon Signs with the Phillies for 3 years at 18 million. The Yankees and another team, believed to be Texas, made a late run at signing Gordon. But when the Phillies offered to guarantee him a third year and allow him to go back to closing, that apparently sealed the deal.

Looks like the Marlins periodic firesale came early. It seems everytime they put together a decent team they trade the core of the team away. After '97 when they won the series, After '03 when they won the series they started trading everyone away again though it wasnt quite near the size of '97 and now after they went 83-79 two consecutive years they're starting to trade everyone away again.

The Braves have been staying fairly quiet. i haven't heard any big news comign from Atlanta except that it looks like they will be losing Furcal to the Cubs (decision is expected to be made this weekend).

The only NL East team to make big improvements so far have been the Metropolitans. Phillies Marlins and possibly the Braves have only lost key players, and the Nationals have been very quiet except for signing Marlon Anderson which isn't that big of news except it takes from the Mets bench.

Next year is almost upon us.

Lots of moves on the hot stove the last few days. The winter meetings have begun with some serious moves. The Blue Jays look like they want to contend seriously with the Yankees and Red sox in the AL east. Will add latest updates later.

And there were 11 free-agent signings Wednesday
There were nine trades Wednesday.
In the biggest, the Texas Rangers reached a tentative deal to send All-Star second baseman Alfonso Soriano to the Washington Nationals for outfielders Brad Wilkerson and Terrmel Sledge, plus minor league pitcher Armando Galarraga. The deal is subject to the players passing physicals.
Red Sox deal Renteria to Braves for third base prospect Andy Marte The move left Boston without a shortstop, but Red Sox senior adviser Bill Lajoie denied a much-rumored deal that would wheel Marte to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays for Julio Lugo. Lajoie said he expected to see Marte play for the Red Sox this year, putting him in the outfield or first base if it's necessary to get his bat in the lineup.Marte, 22, batted .275 with 20 homers and 74 RBI in 109 games in Triple-A last season, and .140 with no homers and four RBI in 24 games with the Braves. He is rated as the top prospect in the Braves organization by Baseball America. Boston will pay $8 million of the $26 million Renteria is owed for the next three seasons. In addition, the Red Sox must pay the $3 million buyout if his $11 million option for 2009 is declined.
Boston also sent catcher Doug Mirabelli to San Diego for second baseman Mark Loretta

Sources close to the Dodgers report that former Red Sox Third Baseman Bill Mueller has signed to play in Los Angeles.
Mueller has spent the past three seasons with the Red Sox and won the 2003 AL batting title with a .326 batting average.
Mike Meyers former red Sox lefty relief specialist signs with the Yankees
agreeing to a two-year, $2.4 million deal.
Miguel Tejada wants out of Baltimore.
Hey someone say the sox needed a shortstop. Manny for Tejada? I usually dont like the rumors but this one is solid and is intriguing.
Reports say Baltimore has reached an agreement on a four-year, $27.5 million contract with free agent catcher Ramon Hernandez, pending a physical. Where does that leave Javier Lopez?
