Default stupid question

this question is regarding how to hold your fishing rod.....all my life i have held it so the rings are up facing me.....people constantly criticize me saying that the rings should be down facing the water....i suppose it doesnt really matter considering ive taken many fish "rings up" but id like to know what everyone else thinks....sometimes i feel that other people are right because the handle on my penn spinner will only stay on one side(i can unscrew it but it won't screw onto the other side of the reel) and suggestions?

Default Re: stupid question

Spinning = guides down
Conventional = guides up

Any other way will earn you some strange looks and probably a bit of abuse (mostly behind your back)

There are reasons for where the guides are supposed to be - a rod has whats called a spine. Spinning and Conventional rods are built with the guides on a specific side of that spine - turning it upside down defeats the purpose.
