Raritan bay was dead as a doornail on the Jersey side tonight.
Fished with a friend, he got the only fish, a little 25"er

Late report,
Had a morning to myself on Friday, hit the front for 3-1/2 hours, out of the darkness thru high tide, with only one little bump to show for it, using clams. Water temps should be right around 50, if you can believe what you read on the ole inter-web.

I dropped my thermometer in last night back in the bay and the temp was around 56/58 degrees

Hey Guys,

Totally new here, and semi new this year to specifically targeting Stripers when i go out there. I was fishing in the Raritan bay on sunday cause it was such a nice night and high tide was at 930. I got to my beach at around 645, only had 2 poles on me so i set 1 up for Sandworms and 1 for Clams. I casted the Sandworm setup out first cause it was easier to set up. Walked over picked up a clam and my knife and by the time i turned around my pole was already bending over. 24'' shorty and the only fish all night. Less then 30 seconds in the water.

Unfortunately because of work i can only fish when the tides fit my schedule. Any suggestions as to what to do when ur stuck to the shore and your not at the best tide?

You need to learn your areas. Some spots will be productive on low tides, others will not. It'll come together as you put your time in.
Sometimes you'll have to wade out to get to the fish - My friends and I occasionally wade out so far that you can barely see people back on the beach (don't do this alone)

Or you can get a yak

Went out last night in RB and nice little spot open on a really crowded beach, set up, and 2 guys to the right of me were nailing blue fish, 4 guys to the left of me nailing blue fish, me .... not a bump.... guys on the right had 16 blues by the time i left, and the 4 guys to the left of me left with i would estimate about 30 - 40 blue fish in 4 black garbage bags. Didn't see a single striper pulled in . Gunna go out in a few hours to see if i can play with some blue fish today for me. Ill reply later!

Went out Saturday May 2nd to Sandy hook on the boat with clams. Set up just off a hump in 15 ft. of water, outgoing tide, couple of hours before dark. 5 min. into it caught the 1st short. Continued to get hits about every 10 min till about 10:30 pm. All stripers, with the occasional keeper mixed in. Largest fish was a nice, extremely fat 35 incher. Lost one bigger near the boat, a really nice fish that was pulling plenty of drag. NO bluefish!!! WOOHOO !!! Oh yea, Zim must have been near cause we did get 1 skate. LOL.
