Sudsy,

Fish are in the range of what we are seeing off the NJ coast with an occasional teen sized fish. According to my log, it could be another week as the water temps dropped big time before a hopeful major push of fish come my way as we usually get a decent amount of fish who split Long island (south shore & north shore) and come down the north shore which is me, as these fish are typically the ones who run back up the Hudson.

Hoping to get a day where the winds lay down somewhat so I can go on a search now that gas is more reasonable. Running to Stamford from New Rochelle on a calm morning is like 40 minutes, (to the Cows) and there we'll run the reef. But, once the Herring show, then these fish have tunnel vision and follow them all over.

I'll keep you posted..got out to OC for a few this morning, Nada...

That's some of the best news I've heard all week, with the numbers of sub-keeper fish I've been catching I was afraid that the next thing we saw down here were going to be rats, I have not seen a large fish taken from the beaches yet, and out of the several dozen fish I've caught, only 2 keeper sized out of the bunch. Keeping my fingers crossed (for warmth) that we still have some decent fish coming our way yet.

I just got reports from the other side that there are some bigger fish being caught.
Not monsters but teens which is fine by me

Hopefully they'll show up for the Gobbler

Same for me, I'll be down there Wed. into the darkness, and then back down Thurs am with some of my neighborhood homies that wanna chuck clams and catch bass.....we'll see. We tried it last night, but 8 oz would not hold against the sweep, plugging was marginal at best, and noone had so much as a tap.
I don't think tonight could be worse than that, but I've been wrong before.....

Hey Guys,

Sheepshead Bay has a nice pod of Bass and hopefully they'll run the shore line south (NJ Way)...water temps are all over the place and in the Sound we're not getting any warmer...it could be over for us up there as a lot of fish pushed thru according to many of my contacts.

Hoping to put in some time tomorrow morning off some OC beaches and then on Saturday...

Happy Thanksgiving..

All boat guys, they wonder why I can't just take them to where the fish are.....

We spent 4 hours turkey day morning, had some hits before sunrise, watched the sun and the birds get up, saw a few fish break, and just could not hook a fish to save our lives, me included. They want to try it again Sunday am.

This evening, Hook through NoMon, dead, dead, dead, not even hickory shad.

I got a report from a buddy who charters that the fish are thick 3 to 9 miles out on herring and incredible clouds of sand eels. Looks like they're taking the offshore route again

I'm hanging em up. The truck gets emptied out tomorrow.
I'll leave a rod and bag just in case we get a NE blow sometime soon.

Sudsy,
I was questoning my self-worth as a surfcaster and a human being, after having a fish filled Sat night last weekend, and then not a bump, or a touch, or a whiff of a fish on Sun, Mon, Tues., Wed, Thursday, till finally Friday night I stopped in Jetty country and went on another short spree......not really the fish I'm looking for, but after NO fish, short fish start looking pretty good. So this morning, did the dawn patrol and went right back to the same spot and my buddy and I started catching immediately in the darkness, sun went up, birds went up, kept on catching, then caught a herring? Not little herring, but 14" fish on nearly every cast, if you wanted them, they were tearing up my teasers. Wound up fishing, and catching, where the crews are getting ready to pump the sand onto the beach.
GRRrrrrrrrrr........
Haven't seen a large fish caught on the beach yet this fall. It is damn cold out there in the mornings, but I'm just not yet ready to give up the hope of keeper sized fish hitting the beach.

glad you are doin something. i have not even bothered to go out. no keeper size fish to speak of either. i was hoping to get out with the longwand for a bit but life sheet gets in the way. it is one of those years again like suds said. west winds forever and we see no change in sight for that. i am glad you took the batton and ran with it. you WILL get a keeper i promise! fish caught at VZ area yesterday. that said it would be nice to have gotten out tonight but i am watching the fights instead.

Those are probably Hickory Shad and can be a blast on the noodle rod or fly gear.

Hmmmm, maybe I'm not quite done yet

When I first saw the fish I thought shad too, same general size and shape, but they didn't lose any scales when you touched them, I've seen those things shed scales like it was snowing.
I dunno. Between the expert marine biology opinions offered up by myself and my buddy Sean, we said herring. But we have been wrong before.
They did pull pretty good when first hooked, and they were tearing up my teasers, but after 10 of them or so the teaser came off.

Took the 'omies up there today in the lovely e wind sleetfest this morning and put 'em on fish, first time beach plugging for some, and first beach bass for one guy.
