Default Cedar

I stopped at the fence shop after work and asked for a 4x4 cedar fence post. We got into talking and I said I was making fishing lures with the 4x4. He asks if I want some cedar cut-offs and now I'm set for the winter.

Placed my building supplies order tonight. I have some belly and tail grommets, wire, 3/8" fish eyes, Danny and Pikie style lips on their way. Time to blow the dust off the old vintage lathe. The spring of this year was my first shot at making plugs. I followed Roccus's Danny plug directions and they came out good. Lost one to a blue fish and another to a long night of fishing and forgetting to open the bail. Don't you hate that sound. It went a mile I turned some pencil plugs and after I figured out the tail weight, they worked well. This year, its more Danny's, pencils, and I'll try some Pikies, poppers and I have to try the Roccus 14 inch, jointed Pikie.

I'll make a few of each and try different paint schemes on them. Some light, some dark and I need to work on my mackerel pattern.

Time to start gearing up for next season.

I stopped on the way home yesterday and scored 108 pieces of cedar all at least 2-1/2 X 2-1/2 and 12" long for nothing.!!!! all I have to do is bring the guys at the fence shop some plugs. I think I can do that.
Thanks for the idea Zeema.

Bringing the guys at the fence shop some lures is a great way to ensure a steady supply of cut offs. Sounds like the thing to do.

I started on a huge pencil popper last night the thing will be 18" long and 3-1/2" in diameter. I am going to give it to them so they can hang it on the wall in the shop. I will also bring them some fishable plugs.

Big lures catch big fish..... Are you sure you don't want to try a few casts before you bring it to the guys in the shop. Make sure to use the stiff rod.

Yup, tear out is a beotch with red and white cedar, even with sharp tools.
I leave the blanks 1/16th over and use 80 grit down to 200 grit to take it the rest of the way down and clean up the tear out.
