Went out Sunday afternoon, last couple hours of incoming and first couple outgoing near Croton.
A few hits but no fish landed both on the mud flat and edges of the channel. Marked a bunch of fish in the channel. Used jigs, lures and both drifted and weighted blood worms.

Anyone on here exclusively use lures and willing to share some tactics? Anyone go for them in shallower water or top water in the river, doesn't seem like it happens with them in spawn mode? Drift vs weighted blood worms? Any help would be much appreciated. Trying to dial in this fishery a little bit this year if I can.

Have been chasing stripers for a few years now but mostly in the NJ surf or the LI sound.
I've had some luck catching schoolies on the south side of croton point using both swim baits and flies. I drift the edge of the channel where the croton river runs into the hudson all the way down to the point. You either need a super quiet trolling motor or to drift as the fish spook super easy in the shallow water. You will see swirls from their tails when they spook. Ive also heard of people catching them on bucktails and trolled swim baits at around 15-20' in the main river but have never tried it myself. there are some articles you can read about trolling for stripers on the river, a quick google search will bring them up

And it begins...........got the boat in tonight (last night) and fished Newburg for a few hours on incoming tide in the mist/fog till about 10pm....we managed 4 up to 26 inches. It was a rough ride back to Marlboro in the fog in the dark though. Marlboro was also devoid of fish..........all our good marks were off Dennings Point.

I'm a shore guy but all I use is lures and jigs, you in a boat? Try Savage Sandeels, 2 1/3oz, Joe Baggs jigs Patriot Fish 7". I got tons of other stuff I use. Let me know if you have lure preference questions.

Yes those are the ones , but Not for that price. go to http://joebaggsoutdoors.com
and http://canalbaitandtackle.com Canal bait and Tackle sells both types of jigs and once you hit the $30 its free shipping. Joe Baggs site has more colors of course , a tad more expensive but both are Fast shipping.
For trolling , I use the X-Rap Magnum, 5 1/2" for 20ft. depths and the 6 1/4" for 30 ft. depths. in colors ,Sailfish,Bonito, and Blue Sardine. All are available at http://FishUSA.com
We use this combination to cast (jigs) and troll in Cape Cod Bay

Scapped in Highland 6:30-8 without any luck. The herring are around though, I'm not really sure why they weren't following the stoolie. Another guy had about 7-8 and gave me his live ones when he left. Had them out there 8:15-10:45 without a run. He caught a 29"er & a 28.75"er yesterday morning. This are starting to heat up. Going to try every day now until it's over.

Put in at Schodack today, fished up to Staats and back, nothing. Few marks on the FF. Two cats on worms, no white perch. Cool and rainy, very light wind. Incoming tide. WT 48, clarity about a foot. What's the Posty look like?

Went out for a couple hours this afternoon. Was finally able to scap my limit in herring. Ended my trip with 3 in the boat to 31". Two on chunk.

On another note ..watch out for the huge trees and debris floating around. Had to yank my anchor a few times.
