Default Newbie: setting up leader, line, swivels, hooks

Hey guys, newbie here on the S.Shore of MA, have only fished fresh when I was a kid and am now starting salt. Have an old 19' bowrider boat and am planning on taking my wife and 7 yr old on our first family fishing expedition next week while we're all on vacation (staycation). We'll be staying mostly inshore.

I've been reading the forum for a few weeks and I grabbed a few rod/reel combo's for me, the wife and son earlier this week. Also looks like I grabbed a few lures that seem to be "standards" (bucktail, kastmaster, atom striper swiper) while on a quick spree at the "marine" store.

Now, my question is, how do I set up the rig? What do I attach to the end of the bare line, how long, what weight and what comes after that? How to attach the lure... direct to a snap?

Seems like leader and swivels and mono and flouro and......all have there place.

Any advice would be extremely helpful. Just want to set this set up right and get on the water and have a go at it!

Thanks in advance!

Barrell swivle from the maine line to a stronger lb test then to your lure. As for length 3' will be suffcient.

Try a search in the boaters forum/main forum... There is everything you need to know and about 20 extra years of reading if you have the time...

Thanks Ghilie, I did a search and also read the Newbie FAQ's etc...just couldn't find a specific simple, basic rig setup.

I am still reading, this is being up late for me..

Read essentials for the surf and
rigs tubes lures

Your pesentation depends on the conditions - ie the weather - current - tide stage -wave height - water depth and how your going to fish whether it be at anchor , trolling or drifting.
Your depth finder is important - where are the fish holding at? What baitfish in the area? -
Your basics are outlined.
Anchor up in a safe non traffic spot next to a change in depth - toss out a chunk of cut bait on a fishfinder rig with a weight that will hold bottom in the hole and crack open a soda relax and have a sandwich. Have fun and be safe.
