2 stroke / 4 stroke OBs?

I'm having a very hard time getting the notion that 4s are better than 2s.
Probably just a mental block of some sort.
With smaller to medium OBs I've always had 2 strokes.
Some things I've appreciated;
I've had them go under water for a time and very easily revived them to running condition with next to nothing but a cleaning / drying being required.
Never needed a valve job.
Never worried about all the extra moving and sealing parts.
Never considered a oil change and where to toss the drainings.
No oil filters.
No concern about oil pumps, leakage, presure.
Very simple & straight forward winterizations.

Okay, I understand the 4 strokes are quieter and all, But it really doesn't matter to a deaf guy (like me) as much.
If the 4 stroke goes under (few hours/day),,, how easy would it be to revive it safely?
,,, and what are some of the other pluss about the 4 strokes?
Maintenance?
Cost?
Weight?
Reliability?
Speed?
Efficiencty?

I've been looking, just don't seem to get it.

Reason for asking is, I'm in the market for a boat. Seems all the newer ones sport the 4 strokes. If I go with an older one it's 2 stroke.
Now I'm not opposed to older boats in good (fishing) condition. Even if re-powering is in line (depending on total cost of course). But, very few seem to offer 2 strokes as a new re-power option. Fortunately, one of my favorite makers still offers 2 strokes (I think).
Just trying to plan ahead is all.

Floats Im not a boat guy - but I do know a huge advantage is in gas mileage.

Right now, Mercury, Yamaha, and Suzuki are all offering 6 year warranties on their 4-stroke outboards, the norm is a three year warranty. Most two stroke warranties are for 1 year.

That's what sold me on the 4 strokes.

Besides the manufacturer having 3x the faith in them, they get great gas mileage, are easy to service yourself and last a long time.

My 8 year old Mercury gets at least 150 hours of use every year. I have serviced it 5 of the eight years and it starts right up the first time.

go with the e-tec from evinrude they are 2s but act like a 4s with light weight and fuel eco... they were the hottest motor on the market

Think /thought / may have bought a boat with a motor already..... Maybe.

Trying to work a deal on a 18' Parker with a 130 Yamaha.
I'm ready for it, asked about how he'd like payment, and how it could get here,,, and everything went silent. Not a word.
Now I don't know if he went away for the holiday(s),, or decided to keep it,, or found a better offer.

So I guess in view of the silence,,, I may or may not be still looking?

Doesn't the two stroke have to have oil added to the fuel? Our two strokes did when we had them. I think the four strokes do not. Some one correct me on this if you can. If it is true the cost of oil to add is not cheap.

Yes you have to combine oil with the gas. Most modern 2 strokes combine the oil on their own so you just need to add the oil to a small oil tank and keep an eye on your oil level. I had an older 2 stroke where you had to do a basic calculation on how much gas you put in and then add the right level of oil directly into the gas tank (kind of like a chain saw). It was kind of a pain in the ass but nothing too bad. Keep in mind you still have to "change" your oil with a 4 stroke so your buying oil either way but probably less with a 4.

I'm a big fan of 4 strokes. I have a Suzuki 140 and it's great. It's a very quite engine and even if you can't hear it the fish might. I think it helps me sneak up on bass feeding in shallow water but it could just be my imagination. As long as you change your oil on a 4 stroke on land you definetly get less oil in the water than with a 2 stroke. I want to keep our water clean so that's another reason I use a 4.
