I am in the market for a new 200 hp 4 stroke. I have narrowed it down between Suzuki and Yamaha. The Yamaha was going to be $750 more, this included rerigging boat for new controls etc. Right now the Yamaha has a free 3 year extended warranty. If you want the 3 year extended warranty with the Suzuki it is around $750. So after everything is said and done they will be around the same price. Any information to help me decide would be greatly appreciated.
Yamaha all the way. If your repower is an upgrade from a 2 stroke make sure the stern of your boat can handle the additional weight that a 4 stroke brings.
Many Suzuki dealers are offering the 3 year extended warranty also. Right now I'm looking at a 4 stroke Yammy 150 or a 4 stroke Suzuki 175. Both w/t 6 yr warranty. $10,000 grand for either one.
Yamaha has a better reputation and service availability is probably better. I've been asking around, and I have heard no negative reviews of the Suzuki.
You can get a 200hp Suzuki for $12,000 or a 200 Yamaha for $14,000.
I don't think you can go wrong with either engine.
I know guys that run both, and run 'em hard, tuna fishing, offshore bottom fishing and running a tow boat service,I far as I can tell it's a draw.... the old suzuki 2 strokes were junk, but the 4 stroke motors are a modern marvel, the tow boat operator has three boats with them all get a serious workout....
If the cost is the same, I'd lean towards whichever one had the dealer with the best reputation and is most convenient for YOU...
I've had a Suzuki 4 stroke 140hp for about a year and it's worked great for me. I hear great things about the Yamaha's too. When I got mine they were including the extra 3 years as some sort of promotion. You might want to hold out and see if they run that promotion again. Can't go wrong with either engine.
