Bloodworm price along the Delaware
A dozen blood worms will cost you anywhere from $8.50 to 12 bucks.
The dealers blame this increase on the price they have to pay for a "flat" of worms, which has increased by several dollars. Some dealers plan to cull out the larger worms and charge a premium price for those then sell the smaller ones at at a lower price.
Bloodworms are about the only thing that really produce along the Delaware river and bay right now. Fishermen have tried clams, bunker, nightcrawlers and other baits in hopes of finding a suitable substitute for the expensive bloodworms, but with little success. Shiners will produce and may provide a reasonable alternative. But bloodworms are the best bait in the early spring.
How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is quite clearly Ocean.
