Default CT schoolies

Anyone know when fishing the CT rivers (housy, thames) starts getting good? I've heard there is very good early season schoolie fishing there from the winter holdovers once they start "waking up". Whats good? The mouths?

Does this happen in any MA or RI rivers prior to the migration?

There are some spots where you can get schoolies all winter. For the most part things start getting active in April. The bigger bass chase the alewifes up the local rivers in May. Then it's the local coastal waters in June till the Fall run. Hope that helped you.

thanks for the replies. I have read somewhere that once the holdovers "wake up" ; the schoolie fishing is unbelievable- one after another.. I thought that this happens prior to the migration from the more southern areas. I live in SE Mass and want to take a road trip to CT when/if this happens. Keep me posted and thanks again!

Hell yeah. They come up to the Holyoke dam. Some are even counted in the fish ladder.

Default Striper Run

Hi guys,

I was recently told that there are alot of baitfish holding in the North Cove near the mouth of the CT River. I bet you could pull a bunch of stripers out of the mouth right now.

Bummer. How did you fish them? Top / bottom or somewhere in the middle? With clams I've had great luck with them on a bobber with a 24" line.

Capt Al Anderson fishes the Thames river all winter long for ALS tag & Release.. if ever looking for information on what it hot in that area I always look for his reports. I know they come across to RISAA members but I am sure you can find them on the web.. he's tagged something over 30,000 stripers
