Smile Stripers at Lake Havasu Mid Oct.

Spent 2 weeks at Lake Havasu trying to troll up some stripers between the lake and Parker Dam. We picked up several using stump jumpers and then started finding schools on bait balls at about 15-20 ft. We stayed with each school and waited for them to push the shad to the surface and this really paid off. Each of us had 4 rods loaded with krocodile spoons and when they boiled it was fast and furious. We'd get 1 in the boat, pick up another rod and do the same over and over again. Most of the action happened at dusk. One eve. we had 2 seperate schools come to boil, all fish were between 2 and 6 lbs. Once we began fishing the schools it was almost guaranteed every time we went out. Great Trip. Making another trip in December which has been real good for the last 3 years.

This was the 1st time using u-rigs, I wanted to try something new because like you said it's been getting tough out on the river. We trolled the u-rig about 10-15 ft deep in 30 ft water staying just off the points and across the coves and on each side of the rig we trolled stump jumpers. We didn't get any hits on the rig but we caught maybe 6 stripers on the jumpers. These were stray fish and not schooled up. I couldn't tell you if the u-rig helped any at all, but it was exciting to fish with them. Finding schooled fish was the ticket on this trip.

No we don't, we used to handle the heat in the summer real well when we were young, now we avoid the real hot months. I hate to say we're getting old but we are.

That is my yearly vacation time, was going to say stop by for a beer or four if you fished it. We have got our butt kicked the last two years but always have fun. Fish just not where they use to be at that time. Hopefully get boat going and try your way with the schooled fish maybe see you guys there in December will post if there......
