My personal favorite is CalStar 660 or 665; Stuart Tuff Butt; Amtak Virtus guides

The Tuff butt I use is the TB-2 model (aluminum tube/swagged reel seat/nylon oversleeve) To get the blank to fit you'll have to turn down the last 7-8" of blank diameter some (near to 1/8") but then you can adjust the overall length of the rod by sliding it down into the tube to the length you like. Alternately you can just use the tuff butt nylon sleeve & build out the diameter of the blank to fit. I like the tuff butts because they slip in/out of rod holders easily. One other "note" about the tuff butts - the nylon gimble will not seat properly on a Parker boat. So I always ask & if Parker then I use an aluminum gimble - American Tackle AG-4 is a perfect fit

It really depends on what you're trolling

Wire and umbrellas?
Bunker Spoons?
Plugs?

All these items need drastically different rods to achieve the proper action

I like 6.5' to 7' rods in the boat. If you build it you should put the best guides on . I us carbon guides and a carbon roller tip. If you build it like that, you can use anything . Wire, Braid, lead core anything. Don,t limit yourself. It's not that much more money.

Ok,coming back for more help! Still not all that smart with guide and tip sizing, etc. Its definitely a whole new language to learn.

For the rod I mentioned above, a 6" trolling rod, what size Guides would you recommend to me? I will probably go with the Pacific Bay Carmet Braced Boat guide.

Thanks!

I would use double footed carbon guides 14 12 12 12 maybe a 10 Carbon roller tip 18 or 16 (afco) I have lami glass boat rods. 6' blank is on the short side? How big is your boat. A bigger rod will help you wear the fish down, more action
