I agree that the Walmart rod/reel is cheap... no argument here. I'll take another look at the surf rods at FF to see if they're any better. I think the selection in the area is low because it's not a popular type of sportfishing - unfortunate. Incidentally a family member is in NB for the weekend. What's the name of the store and the telephone number or website?

The store is "Better Buys".I don't have a #.It's on Main st., in the SuperStore building near the mall. These rods are still not great, but better than the Walmart ones.Tell whoever is doing the looking for you that they are the white "Bass" rods with the orange tip.Whoever is working will point them in the right direction. You also want the one that is rated for the heavier lures.

try the HI-LINER FISHING GEAR. 155 Chain lake Drive, Halifax in bayers lake park they have some penn rods that are good.and let me know if you are looking for striper rigs for (bait fishing) i sell many different kinds way better and cheaper than walmart, canadian tire, fishing fever etc..
over the years i developed rigs that cast further than anything on the market.

Thanks fishpucked. I totally forgot about Hi-Liner and they're only about a 8 minute drive from my place. I'll try them in a few weeks as they're only open M-F during regular office hours when I'm in the office. :( I'm interested in the striper rigs. Send me a PM and we'll exchange emails.
