Default Everyone who is interested in the future of the striper.....

Needs to watch this video on what's going on in the Chesapeake Bay with Omega and the bunker. The show is about 15 minutes
long so grab a cup of joe, kick back for a bit and prepare to be POed.
If you use Realplayer or Quicktime you can skip the
Iraq part of the show and go straight to the menhaden part - fast forward to 7:40 (WMP doesn't let you fwd)

Now On PBS

I've been reading about OP for a while now, and I can't see any reason why they should be allowed to take as many bunker as they want.
If the current levels allow the bunker to rebuild, then I'm OK with letting them catch that many fish. If current levels of catch are causing a decline in bunker numbers, then it's time to lower the cap. Hell, as a rec fisherman, I live with size and bag limits every time I go fishing, I don't see why some big company shouldn't be regulated in a fair manner as well.
Oh yeah, .........Money. I forgot. Political contributions to the one regulatory agency that matters, the Va legislature. Isn't it odd that every other species is regulated by biologists, but the bunker get to be regulated by the politicos. I can't see ANY conflict there, no-sirree.
In my opinion, and it's just my opinion, OP has made enough money from bunker, and has probably not shared the wealth with the 275 people working the ships and the factories.......shut 'em down. For the good of all the people, not just the few who profit.

Typical, corporations rape our natural resources, destroying whole ecosystems for profit, and the politicians get paid off to let it happen. I hope the dickhead political hacks can sleep at night, because I know I wouldn't be able to if I was them.
