Default Just got a quote on my kitchen

Anybody have any experience in remodeling, I just got a quote on remodeling my kitchen and extending it off my back porch by 6ft by 12ft. They will be able to use the current structure and wouldn't have to lay any new foundation. For the cabinets, countertops, and extension, they quoted me 38-42k. Does this seem pretty high, i figured tops would be about 25. This was with granite countertops. I just kind of thought this was really pricey and I'm going to get some more quotes but i just wanted to get some thoughts. The kitchen right now is about 11ft by 6 ft (not that big with just a little bit of counter space) Thanks.

I've done a few kitchens.

Without knowing all the variables it would be hard to consider it
high or low.

One thing you can do is take measurement of the kitchen...
Go to home depot and have them lay out a kitchen design for
you. That way you can figure out what the kitchen cabinets will
look like.

The type of wood and stain can change the price of the cabinets as
much as 20% or even higher. Home depot deals in ThomasVille
cabinets. They used to deal with Shrock Cabinetry, but then Schrock
bought ThomasVille.

I have both types of brands, however, I don't think that higher
prices for those brands get you better cabinets. In my house now,
I've got both ThomasVille and Kraftmaid. Personally speaking. I
think the cheaper kraftmaid cabinets out paced Thomasville and
the price wasn't even close. Home depot sells all the brands.

So, first get a drawing from Homedepot, Then go get a countertop
guy. Don't use home depot for the granite. They mark it up. Find
some portugese dealers and shop around.

If you're looking for 1 stop shopping for "1 guys does everything".
You'll get upgrade costs along the way. Every price of granite is
different and costs vary as well.

Things to pay attention to is the Fridge (how big) and kitchen sink.
With Granite you want a stainless steel undermount. The size of
the sink will help you determine the sinkbase. My sinkbase is 48"
My sink is a dbl bowl but I need the size too. Every pot I own fits
in the bowls.

Oh yeah, becareful with sheet pans in sinks with granite tops. The
sheet pan will dig into the granite and will cause it to chip around the
sink. Never leave sheet pans in the sink!

As for price, You're sticker price is low. My cabinets for my kitchen
alone nearly cost that! My counter top for my kitchen was around $9600.
It was about 115 sq ft. If I can get the name of the granite i'll forward it.

Get an appointment to have homedepot draw it up on their computer
design software. Then you got something more concrete to go by.

What will the exact dimensions be for the kitchen when done? Are they
doing the plumbing too? What about fixtures? Dish washer, stove, cooktop?

Sorry don't mean to go on and on. Just been thru it myself a few times and
learned all the issues pretty well.
