has anyone used a 80 lb. mono leader on plugs to help prevent loses when striper fishing?

I do when fishing very large plugs but it's the large plug that prevents those teeth from reaching the leader. I guess the heavy leader just gives me more confidence and is more abrasion proof around the rocks.

I use leaders up to 125# when pencil popping for big bass and blues.

it's when you stop working the plug cuz yer neck is getting bit to chit by the west wind greenies!!! but then again, sudsy would not be fishing in that wind to begin with.

That's the single greatest thing about Monmouth County - NO GREENIES !!
However, the mosquitoes on the Hook can suck you dry in about 5 minutes.
