Default Will the mouth of the Mack be fishable this year?

I went on a fishing charter last Friday. We were fishing for cod and hadddock, but the captain also fishes for stripers. I was talking to him about the condition of the river mouth and how the silting of the area has affected the navigation of it. He told me that the river is more treacherous than ever. He said the plum island side is almost completely silted in with an average depth of 3' or less during low tide. The only "clear" area would be the north channel. He went on to state that this condition combined with all the congestion of boat traffic is creating the perfect situation for a major incident. He will only go into the mouth when he is desporate for fish. Other than that, he avoids the area like the plague.

What is the condition like? is it that bad? He said that the funding is not there to dredge the mouth which is badly needed.

Any input?

Thanks.

Only a matter of time before people start running aground.

Take it from ROC he knows , no water at the mouth, they can't get in so they are all at the Cape.

With a 50/50 chance of running aground, the engine destroying silt, all the toxins and unexploded WW2 ordinance turning up, you would have to be a fool to come within 10 miles of the mouth this summer.

I heard they are killing them on the Cape.
