i was using a clouser fly about 6" long which i tied using some white saltwater streamer hair and silver minnow flash.
casting and stripping a X-super sink shooting head
as for the fish, they were just schoolies but i did have a hog on that went deep into the backing. This is just the start of good things

AWESOME!

I have a buddy who has been getting some schoolies on Clousers and Bunny Strips down at the Tappan Zee...

Glad to hear it can happen up here too... I have a few dozen Clousers tied up and I hope to repeat your performance in the coming weeks!

This week is shaping up to be better than planned- seems like the Stripers are a little earlier than the past few years? Hope the good weather this week keeps 'em coming north!

Hope to meet some of you guys at the Gathering... Should be a lot of fun...

Looks like a Saranac Pale Ale to me... That's the Good Luck Charm in my canoe too...

You tend to get larger fish if you drink them out of the "Growler" sizes, I have found... Or at least my exaggeration skills improve after a few tall boys...

i went out again yesterday from 4 till dark , up the creek. No stripers nor seen anyone else with any action. I did however catch at least a dozen smallmouth (on the fly) . Now that i have the mojo working with the fly rod in the creek i'm wondering how to get it working in the main river.
I will be casting off the Ranger (boat) out there which will make casting much easier. But my concern is how to get the fly down to the depth of stripers in the deep tidal flow. Currently i'm using an 8wt rod with running line and a X-sink 30' shooting head. My fly is heavly weighted clouser style and i'm switching to a 6/0 hook for the big boys. I feel after loosing the one big one sunday a # 2 hook was just not enough for big fish.

Any Thoughts ??????? Or Experience ??????
