Default when the baitfish come

I have cleaned my rods, reels, plugs, and tackle box several times over in anticipation of this spring. I've bought some new lures, based on advice i've received from local tackle shops. What I've assembled is sluggos, storm shads, poppers, and swimmers in three basic colors: black, white, and bubble gum pink. I've heard to use the black at night, white during the day, and bright colors at dawn and dusk. But what I haven't done is bought anything that resembles baitfish that we see in Maine. What are the different species of baitfish, and in what general order do they arrive in our waters? Alewives and herring in the spring? Macs in the summer? When are eels good to use? Because knowing is half the battle...
