Default Upper Narragansett Bay Fish Report

Fishing Reports up to and including Tuesday, May 17, 2011
Location: Upper Narragansett Bay, Rhode Island

Extreme weather patterns this week…. cold, windy, rainy; more is expected for the next four days. This is mid-May? Feels more like March. Great morning tides this week too with a moon high near sunrise. Really expected the fishing to take-off for mid-May. More fish are now entering the upper bay in all locations with some scattered bait around. Once this front blows threw, fishing should return to normal.

Captains Log:

Dave Pollack found the love on Monday morning dealing with extreme fly fishing conditions, 20 knot north winds, fast drifts, and cold temperatures. What a way to open the season. Dave landed this beauty, his first boat caught striper of the season. He’s favorite fly pattern this time of year, “The Clemson Streamer.” Dave threw his herring imitation a quarter to the wind to some breaking bait under birds near Warwick Neck Light. A few strips and he was connected. The surface action only lasted a few minutes. We found one other occasion of surface action north of Conimicut Light. In both cases it was over before it started. A total of ten stripers were released this morning.

A nice start to the season….. considering the weather
