Default Swivel size

I am attempting to design a through wire darter. On my blueprint I have the swivel hole measured at 1" deep. The swivels I bought are SPRO power swivels #4 They are only 1/2" long. Apparently they are too small. What size should I have bought?

Also what size belly grommets should I use for 3/0 VMC hooks?

Thanks for the help.

1/0 swivel is probably what you are looking for.

And the larger sized belly grommets to go with it, the .341 OD size.

For smaller diameter plugs I keep some #1 swivels and the .273 OD belly grommets on hand.

Just curious, but I thought most darters were center-drilled, and if it's 1-1/2" diameter, it's only 3/4" to the center...why is the hole so deep?

Put a split ring on the end of the swivel before you put it in the body. It's a trick I think I've seen Roc use. Roc? Are you the guy that showed me that?

Here's what I do.
Works well for very deep body plugs. The one's where there's no way yer ever going to get a swivel to reach the wire, not even with a split ring.

I do them out of quality stainless steel swivels and the same stainless wire I use for the through wire. (It's another use for your cut scraps of wire.) But I didn't have any finished ones around so for the sake of demonstration I just whipped this up quick out of a crap swivel and paper clip.

Most darter patterns that I saw were screw eye builds, so I drew up my own through wire design. In the diagram that I drew up the body is 1 5/8" dia and the through wire had to be drilled from center rear to 3/4 up in order to get the eye where I want it.

Thank you all for your replies. I like the use of the scraps of through wire. I won't have to cut the hooks and I can adjust the length better than with split rings.
