Default What to look for before heading out

Guys,

What should I look for before heading out to the mighty Hudson? Want to get out there soon but don't want to waste my time either. When does everyone start? This will be my second year heading out, Newburgh/Beacon area.

Well keep an eye on the forum here, guys will give updates to Herring sightings, stripers being caught etc ...

Tom @ The River Basin also has lots of updates too.
riverbasinsports.com

Should be some action in about 2 weeks, but that will just be the start of things.

Good luck

Just to jump on the River Basin bandwagon, their website is very informative, and thanks to everyone who keeps them updated with general info on where fish are. I put in my 2 cents worth throughout last year, figured I checked it enough its fair to let them know if I was seeing fish in my area.

My advice: start early, finish late, fish as much as you can in between.

put in the time and learn about these fish and you won't have to rely on reports........knowledge is key, never think of it as a "waste of time" make a personal log book to rely on.

I'm in the same boat, this will be my second year well actually my second trip down to hhp. Had three hook ups last year one other hit but the guys liked to mess with the drag settings, there used to fishing perch i guess.Just wondering what week you guys would recommend so I can get the time off from work. Would love to be out from start to finish but 4 hours one way, going to try a few trips this year work permitting. Thanks for any advise! Can't wait to be down there again just the thought of a big striper hook up is worth the drive

Thanks for the help Schubert. I think I will try to get a day that week and one either the last week in April or the second week of may also. That way I can get more time on the water. Hope everyone has a safe and successful season.
