Default line choices

i am confused about which fishing line is best there are too many choices! First I guess I should tell you what kind of fishing i will be doing. Saltwater striper fishing mostly from the surf and shore. i will be using lures most of the time and some occasional livebait using spinning reels .i tried the power pro braided line and had trouble with it. i found it tangled much more than mono and i had difficulty casting with it. also i didn`t like the feel of the braided line. i guess i would be looking for a quality mono line probably 20lb test to handle good size stripers. so far i heard ande and Berkley big game were good choices. any suggestions would be helpful . thanks!

i've got ande on my light tackle rod and 20#yo-zuri Hybrid on my 704Z for plugging. it is a fluorocarbon/nylon line that holds a knot well and casts really nice. the memory on this line is not as predominant as big game or ande so i tend to go with that (for now) as i have not tested it on a larger fish as of yet but suspect it will hold out fine.

Red, can I assume by your screen name that you are a Rhodie guy?
My favorite line for standard spinning gear is Ande' tournament grey. I have used it for a very long time. It is one of the best lines for abrasion resistance, and I've had no problems with memory. You seem to be fairly new at the game, by the questions you ask, so I recommend you stay with the more forgiving mono over braids. Plugging is an entirely differant game from bait fishing so the stretch factor does not come into play as much either.

My line of choice is Ande. I've ever lost a fish on it since I started using it 3 years ago.

It is a soft line and strong, but the equivalent diameter they claim on the spool is way off. For instance, a spool of 50# braid, is claimed to be equiv. to 14# test mono, but it is more like 25# test mono.
I spooled a 525mag with it last year, and didn't get nearly as much line on as I should have.
Unless you have a large spool capacity, than for get it. IMO

If you find that you want to go the superline route in the future, try Fireline.
IMO, it is much more spinner reel friendly than braids.
