Default Arkansas River:

By Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
Nov 28, 2004

Arkansas River: Charley?s Hidden Harbor near Oppelo said the flow from Lock no. 9 is 52.70 cubic feet with headwater at 285.67 and tailwater at 270.15. Due to the weather, many fishermen have been staying indoors, and the weather forecast does not look good. Catfishing is good. For blue cats or channel cats, try using shrimp or worms from 15- to 20-feet deep. Flatheads are biting on live shad fished in 10 to 20 feet of water on top of the jetties. Kentucky bass are good on the downstream side of the jetties. Try using lures in firetiger colors. Whites and black bass are good in Cooper?s Gap and Flag Lake; use shad raps or Roostertails in chartreuse. Crappie fishing is fair on chartreuse jigs in the backwaters from 10- to 15-feet deep.

Default Arkansas River

Arkansas River: Headwaters at 286.16 feet and tailwater at 266.08 feet. When the water temperature reaches 55 degrees, whites and stripers will move into the mouths of the major creeks and into Flag Lake

Arkansas River: Charley?s Hidden Harbor near Oppelo said the headwater from Lock 9 is 286.24 and the tailwater is 269.58 with a flow of 900 cubic feet per second. The extremely slow flow has spread fish out with no major staging areas. Black bass have moved underneath the overhangs. Try fishing buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and Horny Toads in pumpkin colors underneath woody cover. Kentucky bass are biting well on pumpkin Horny Toads around the jetties. The trick for jetty fishing is to stop the bait and let it fall every so often during the retrieve. Stripers have moved to the jetties around 15 to 30 feet deep and are biting well on CC Spoons and Shad Raps. Catfish have moved to the upstream side of the jetties and are biting on whole shad in 6 to 20 feet of water. Bream are biting fair on small black Rooster Tails in 5 to 8 feet of water. Crappie are biting fair on minnows near the grass line in 5 to 8 feet of water.

Arkansas River: Charley?s Hidden Harbor near Oppelo said flow from Lock 9 is 6,000 cubic feet per second with a headwater of 285.24 and a tailwater of 264.65. Strong winds and the deer season combined to keep many anglers off the river. White bass and Kentucky bass are biting well along the windblown banks. Stripers are running with the whites, so be prepared for a fight when casting to schooling whites on the banks. Try Rat-L-Traps in pearl or Smokey Joe. Catfishing is good on the upstream side of the jetties using whole shad and nightcrawlers.

Arkansas River (Little Rock area): Hatchet Jack?s Sport Shop said stripers are biting well on large minnows and chartreuse split-tailed grubs beneath the hydro plant. Crappie are biting well around the Burns Park area. The best bet for the crappie is a minnow or a jig. Catfish are fair on nightcrawlers fished near the main river channel.

agfc-fishing Weekly Fishing Report for November 2, 2005
Arkansas River: Charley?s Hidden Harbor near Oppelo said the flow from Lock 9 is 2,000 cubic feet per second with a headwater of 285.05 and a tailwater of 264.64. Black bass are biting well around Rock Island near the bank and on the narrows near the Petit Jean River. The best lure has been a shallow-diving 4-inch crankbait in baby bass color. Kentucky bass are on the rocks near the banks and are biting well on pumpkin-colored worms and grubs fished extremely slowly. Stripers are cruising on the upriver side of jetties. Live shad have brought in some 12 to 20 pound stripers around 6 to 10 feet deep. White bass are mixed in with the stripers and are being caught on spoons jigged through the schools. Channel catfish are in 6 to 10 feet of water and are biting on stinkbait. Blues and flatheads are on the jetty tips. Fish the swirls with whole live shad for the best action.
