Default The Red Goatee . . .

I have been painting some plugs and just was wondering how important it is to give your plug the red dot underneath the head of the plug ? Is this a crucial step in the painting process ? It seems alot of lures have these red goatees...

What do you think ?

Do they need it or not ?

Personal preference. I've made plugs and caught fish with and without red chin splash. I like the way it looks so most of mine get it.

This is just an observation but many stressed fish I've seen out of the water alive have blood pooling under the chin and the underside of their bodies.

Like Jim said, it's a natural occurrence, it happens to fish, stripers included, when they are grubbing around in the sand looking for food, worms, shrimp, whatever.
