roc,
im gonna try the night shift saturday and fish till we cant fish any more ....then fish some more! say hi if your around,( boat says "knothuntin" on it) we will probally start on macs then switch to eels. I want to try to consentrate on the beach fronts and shallower water more and see what happens. I figured blues were around macs were scarce last weekend and we had to go out to 100+' to find them in #'s.
sunday am heading to the ledge if the weather is as forcasted...

I had a real difficult time finding mackerel this weekend. Tried three different spots with little success. Seemed like there were a lot of boats around and didn't see other people really catching them, either.

When you are fishing in water that deep, do you put your chum down deep as well, or will they come up for it? I usually have my chum bucket 10-12' feet down.

they are right in the top 20' usually. i just got in left the house at midnight and got back home 8pm.....didnt striper fish , chased tuna and ground fished. we came across zero macs today( wasnt really looking) but we did catch a crap load of herring .....20 miles out tho(long way for bait)
next time try speckled apron or hampton shoals if breaking rocks doesnt produce....

did you get into any tuna on the ledge today? I was working on the Captain Lady II and we saw a few but I couldn't get a good look at size/numbers. Our clients caught a bunch of herring when we first arrived

Is the speckled apron outside the 3 mile limit? Is it on this map?:

or do you have to look at this one?

Great day out there today. Mackerel were plentiful - best I've seen all season. Caught 10 stripers outside the mouth on the bottom half of the outgoing tide, 9 keeper size. Most around 30-31", had two that were around 35". Roccus would call them "appetizers", but they are fun for the rest of us

Did run into some bluefish eating up the bait, but it wasn't too bad. Seemed like a lot of boats were hooking up, too. It all went dead as the tide went slack.

This was my oldest sons first trip to "Striper Hevan". We had a great week kept a few to cook over the barbeque. We were running two 16' boats. Aaron lost use of his 30HP Suzuki after the first night. The recoil screwed up and the last night I only got about a hour out of a brand new battery that was fully charged. A couple of photos.... great trip!!!
