Default The Ditch

Whats up everyone! Im new to stripers24/7 but not fishing the ditch! Any thoughts on when some fresh migratory schoolies will start filtering into the canal?

I fished the canal sunday, mostly to shake off the cobwebs and try out some new gear. Unfortunately thats all that happened, not a single bite. Given the slow start to spring and colder water temps im guessing thats why its a little late...last year i was picking off schoolies at this time...but i heard fresh schoolies are around RI!

Any thoughts?!!

Fish are starting to come along now. Remember be respectful if someone is fishing in a spot you wanted to fish just ask to fish there with them, most will say no problem.

I checked out the Canal this morning it was dead. I talked with a couple of other fishermen and they agree there is nothing yet. Could happen any day. The only area I heard of any action was a few schoolies at Oregon Beach. If the warm weather continues I think things will improve.

Something will happen this weekend. More than likely. First real push of smaller fish later in the month should see some bigger ones.

I am going fish the ditch this week end but I don't like the 6am current flow change easterly. Brings to mind the Canal motto "East is least and West is best"

Fished the canal sunday, completely dead... Talked to my grandfather who fished buzzards bay sunday and told me there was plenty of sea bass, tog, and scup...he also saw birds working and blitzez from a distance but couldnt confirm if they were stripers or blues....hopefully theyre almost here...I didnt get a chance to fish the canal monday and I heard that there was some action, even a few 20 #ers taken...can anyone confirm if there was action monday in the ditch???

i was out there this past saturday trying out some new equipment... got 1 strike, but stupid me left the drag too loose to set the hook before it spit the lure.

was it a striper? i have no idea but whatever it was hit pretty hard.

Fished the canal the last 3 days. Fishing the mornings, afternoons, and evenings I managed to land 4 stripers from 20" - 28". Also landed my personal best bluefish this morning, didnt have a scale but it was 29 inches long and estimated it to be around 9-10 lbs. I wasnt targeting bluefish, but have never landed one of this size, this early in the canal. Especially before the stripers roll through...
