Got 2 Stripers 5/5
Boated these 2 in the Ravena area today. Both caught on Herring while drifting the outgoing tide. Saw a few others taken , but very spotty out there.
Me with a 34"
James with a 31"

Re: Got 2 Stripers 5/5
Nice Stripers Brian! You get them on chunk herring? I have seen people drift for stripers, but wasn't sure how to do it. I usually bottom fish chunk herring on a egg sinker above a swivel and my baited hook, but how should I rig when I drift? I doubt you can fish on the bottom still, due to snags, etc. Any insight you can provide would great!

Whole Herring today, one was alive and the other was dead. I use the same exact set up (egg sinker/bead/swivel/3'leader/big @$$ circle hook)and just bounce it off the bottem as you go with the current. You will get a few snags now and then, but that's just part of it i guess. Starting using the drift method about 2yrs ago ... and man have our numbers increased.

Re: Got 2 Stripers 5/5
Thanks for the help Brian, I should be taking another shot early morning tommorow out of Corning and will be trying some drifting out. I'll let you know how I do.

Nice fish Brian! I tried the drift method myself last week, no success, but I blame that on the water temp. Without giving away any secrets Brian, do you try to maintain a certain depth when drifting. I was trying to stay just alongside the channel. Also, Guidici, you may want to give the Corning preserve time to clear out in the morning, the Ale House is hosting it's tournament tomorrow, I bet it will be a zoo down there at first light.

No secrets at all man ... i like the 20' and out to channel myself, for the 2 yesterday one was in 20' and the other about 35'. So no real science to it, we have got them in all depth ranges. This is such a strange season too, i agree with the water temps not warm enough yet. Maybe by mid week we will have many more numbers.

Re: Got 2 Stripers 5/5
Corning Preserve was a zoo, but we got there right in the beginning of the morning rush and beat the big crowd. Getting out was a mess, as it was low tide and we were trying to leave right after the Striper Tourny ended...lol. Most boaters seemed to have a tough time getting their vessels trailered, but Scotia-Hunter and myself were in and out in probably two minutes. Sad to say...that was the high point of our Striper trip! lol
