Default Mercury Optimax

Anyone own a Mercury Optimax engine? Been having some troubles with it the past two years with the throttle. Every once in a while it will go up or down 200-300 RPM's without me touching the throttle, and sometimes the alarm will go off and wont shut off until you go to idle and then you can get back on plane. Im assuming that its the TPS (throttle positioning sensor) that is doing this. My dad's gonna have it scanned. It's a 1998 or 1999 225, warranty has long since expired. Low hours though.

Can anyone speculate?

I have a Merc 4 stroke, that would stall every time I tried to take off, and it would also idle funny. After a couple years of troubleshooting, they finally replaced the throttle positioning sensor, now it is ok. I never had a alarm go off, aren't the alarms usually for overheating?

It will never stall on me, but it will idle funny occasionally. And no, the alarm system I have has four alarms, an engine alarm (electrical) low-oil, and two other things I cant remember. Its basically just a check-engine light on a car, I think its the TPS for sure now.

For Fuel Rail issues, I would check with
I replaced a Fuel Regulator Diaphram in my 225 Opti using one of their Diaphrams. I had issues with idleing and hard starting. Took to my dealer and said everything checks out. Finally found a leaking fuel diaphram. After checking online, I found that I DID NOT have to buy a NEW fuel rail...pelican services sells regulator diaphrams by themselves. I saved $1100...
