I've came so close as to bring a small umbrella rig out in my kayak with me, but I never put it in the water. It would certainly create A LOT of drag, but I think you could handle a small one in a kayak. Some deep divers I've used create a lot of drag, too, but it just helps you keep it slow and steady. One thing I worried about is tangling. It would definitely be tough to keep all of those lines straight, especially in the kayak....even moreso when letting the line out. I figure that I'll stick with a tube-n-worm as long as that keeps working!

Let us know how it works if you try it. Maybe you'll give me a reason to stop thinking about it and do it!

like you guys, i have never used my umbrela rig from a 'yak, but i'm all set up with a 9 count and 4 count umbrela's. the 4 count i made myself from heavy coat hanger wire, so no great loss to get hung up. i'm set up for swim baits, but you can use floating cranks or just spoons/spinners too. the former make it a lot easier...theoreticly anyway...!!!lol

now that i'm thinking about it, i'll have to try one out this week. i'm also going to be fly fishing again for stripers - a real challenge! so far i have only gotten them to hit a big mackeral pattern fly with a bit of fresh mackeral on it. let me tell you, stripers on a fly rod is a ball!!! (i'm going to look into that fly rod holder for stripers in the 'yak. sounds good to me.)
