New guy in a new town

Hello all,
Great site you have here. simply the best I have seen.

I am new to Cape Cod and new to Saltwater. I live in Upper Cape Cod so I'm looking for any tips on where to throw a line. Anyone here fish the Canal? I heard it can eat a newbie alive.... I'm more of a caster than a bait guy if that helps at all.

Hi Fred Welcome aboard. You won't get many guys to give you specific spot info but I got to tell you you are surrounded by good fishing. The Canal can be a tough place. Men live and die fishing the CC Canal and no place other. It will eat your gear as fast as you can buy it but there are times when it lights up and makes it all worth while.

I spend a fair amount of time on the Lower Cape. If you let us know where you are from exactly you might get a PM of a place or two to give a shot.

I just moved to Sandwich MA and I am VERY new to saltwater.
Not looking for anyone's spot just looking to get pointed in the right direction. I will not be doing a ton of fishing and when I do it's always last minute, spur of the moment stuff.

Take a afternoon ride around this weekend with field glasses.
Look for the crusty lookin lot. Not the Hawian shirt crowds.

You're in a great fishing area. Wish I lived that close to so many great areas. I'm a little over an hour to the canal

You've got tons of areas in the canal. At the east end where you're at you can the canal or go down through the bay towards barnstable. Short ride for you to outer reaches of cape such as Truro and Race Point

Get to know the local bait and tackle shops. You'll learn a lot from them

You're also not far from RI. Although there are no fish in RI so it's scenic only.

Get a good pair of breathable waders with stocking feet, felt sole boots with korkers that can be strapped / tied on, and read as much info as you can from the archives here....tons of good stuff

I live in Maine and NEVER mind the traffic trip down to the cape i hope for a trip next week,i have to think of a way to get paid enough to pay for my gear lost in the canal!!!
