Worst Ice Storm on Record

Overnight thurs to friday most of us in New England experienced the worst Ice storm on record. I am one of the fortuanate few to have power at my house.Driving around today looked like a war zone with all the trees and lines that were down.

I wish I had brought a camera with me.

Worse then the one about ten years ago that saw trees in upstate NY exploding from the cold? The one that was so bad power companies from up and down the east coast sent trucks and teams to help?

Here in central Jersey we lost power for 5 days, and we were the lucky ones. Some neighborhoods didn't have power for almost two weeks.

its total destruction up here down where i fish just 10 minutes away they are going to be without power for a week .. a telephone pole couldnt support the weight of the ice on the lines and broke in half

Wow. Reminds me of a storm we had in Kansas City 6 or 7 years ago. I had 3 of the 5 trees in my yard come down that night.

These pictures don't quite show the whole devastation that is out there.not having power
is only a minor inconvenience, some lost there homes,vehicles, and I'm sure some even their lives.

Now is this storm worse then other parts of the country, I don't know. It's being reported as the worst the New England area has seen.Those of you who have been through this in other areas can sympathize to the scope of what people are enduring up here. I count myself very fortunate to only have lost power for about 12 hours and even luckier my neighbors behind me still are without power.

they had half of my town blocked of because of trees and lines going across the road... ill be cutting trees for a week. But iam use to it I live in ny

We got it in my town too. I live in the second highest point of jersey. We got teh same storm as you guys did. I know how you feel. I've been cutting trees for the past three days, and I'll be going to work tomorrow and probably sent on storm duty up by you guys. See you soon probably. Keep safe guys, and don't touch any wires. You never know when its live or dead.

I lost power Thursday night and listened to trees breaking all night. It certainly is a mess. Woke up to trees down all over the place and the streets in-passable. 4 days later, and I'm still without power. I'm lucky enough to have a small generator to keep the heat and water going. They were using plow trucks to clear debris off the road.... right up until they get to a downed power line...

There sure is lots of plug making material laying around.

still 4 days after the storm and many are without power,I talked to guys from southern New Hampshire and they were told it could be another week to ten days without power.

god bless you guys, mother nature is a bitch. this is gonna be the worst winter in the NE in years. cold as a witches tit. taking a february vacation as i will be off for 11 days. for a 5 day vacation. last time i took one in the winter was 10 years ago when we had one helluva winter season. hope it gets better for you soon,

yup, what a mess...i got power back saturday night, however the basement is a flood zone and ive turned my house into a shelter for family that wont have power for at least another few days...its caotic around the 4290 home...well get through it though....good times....good times.
