Default 7' jetty rod

I know that this subject has been discussed already but I have adifferent spin on it. Can I do ok casting a 7' plug rod off a jetty or do I need to go longer.

I'm looking to throw bucktails and diamond jigs etc. in the 2oz range. I had an 8' rod rated to 4 oz. but my mom ran over its arse on the way out of the garage. ( we were about to leave and she backed out before I had a chance to load the gear) Any way the rod's lost about ten inches in the butt, but the rest of the graphite is unblemished. Im thinking of redoing the butt with cork tape and rewraping the guides as a project But only if I can get some use out of this wounded warrior.

Thanx all

10 to 12 inches off the tip top is a lot. you will lose a lot of action. But it maybe useful as a stiff boat rod. Maybe you can take off the second guide and just put on a roller tip. That would save you from doing the hole rod over.

If your using Fireline with a good thermal-filament friendly reel, a 7' rod should be ok for what your throwing off the the jetty. Your metal and jigs will fly if you use Fireline and properly fill the spool.
