Default Raystown Lake Stripers

has anyone fished his lake before? I have fished it 3 times, caught one dink, one 8lb..The Smallmouth fishing ranks up in the top 3 in my book.
Oh by the way I am a rookie to this whole forum stuff......after ten plus years I finally broke down and go on the information superhighway, so if ya aren't sleepin I got plenty to ask and talk about. Looks like a great site especially with the Wiper room!!!

Hi Ohio. Welcome to the forum

Haven't fished it yet. Maybe this year.

But Speaking of Raystown. The Pa. fish and Boat commission put out a press release for volunteer log books for Raystown in case you hadn't seen it.

There are a few guys who fish Raystown that stop by once and a while. How far is it from you? For me its 60 miles or so south west of me.

we go to altoona which is @ 200+ miles, but i will drive hours to try and hook up with one of the big boys. UNBELIEVABLE we didn't have too much success with the guide service we got skunked on the striper trips but we hooked up with a guy and he took us out and showed us the skinny! Pretty coool stuff!!

My son and I have been going for about the past 10 years. We go out for a day with a guide then go on our own after that. The stripers really migrate so unless you know someone or are a guide you won't know where to start. Fishing there for them is a lot different! VERY slow trolling with spoons on planer boards seems to be the ticket. We catch stripers, small mouth, large mouth, catfish, lake trout, and muskey doing this. We have caught stripers up to 20 lbs but I had one on 2 years ago that I could not slow down. the fishing is ususlly slow, between 2 and 10 fish a morning (all fish not just stripers). We have had a real good day where we were trolling and found stripers chasing bait so we started plugging and did well. The average striper I would say is 10 lbs. Let me know if I can answer any other questions for you.
