Default Squid

Went squiddin near Goat island in Newport last night with Zero action. We took the boat and set up in line with the middle of the bridge while everyone else hung at the of the bridges. We relocated thinking that maybe the end of the bridge is where we needed to be again zero action. We never heard of any catches in the 3 hours we worked the area my son did notice that it might not be the right time yet because everyone on the bridge spoke English. That’s a good sign to take head in next time.

I'd like to try my squid'in luck. Where do you buy squid jigs? Any old bait shop? I saw some cool lookin ones that take batteries and glow or flash light online. Do you really think it needs to be that fancy? Maybe? I've never gone squid fishing, but I have seen them in mass before. Right about this time of year.

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmm Cap, I almost wet myself on the same 2 lines that got dave. But you know what? That is the truth. Wait until you see nothing but New York plates and hear nothing but Cambodian spoken, then you will know the Squid are in.
Or wait for the new moon...........................

New Moon in May, right about the time the Rhodie gathering happens. seems there is a dock that is less known by the cambodian crowd where we will be, on the 17th of May.

Hmmmm.... I might have to drive over there tonight and check it out. I will post if I see and/or get any squid.

I have a lantern... but has anybody ever put glowsticks on their line or submerged some glowsticks by where you were squiding? I was thinking about trying that out...

I went down to the base to check it out and there was about 15 people lined up in the corner of the pier. Seems I must have missed a decent run of squid because everyone had a few dozen of 'em. I stayed for a about 30 minutes and got a few, but the big run is still yet to begin. I'm thinking another few days or so and it will be steady down there.

Enough for a small late-night snack... but not enough to save for bait.

The easiest way to get rid of a cambode is to point towards the parking lot and dial your cell phone. They will usually flea like roaches. Or do like my uncle Richie and threaten to throw them in the water. Richie's meathod is usually the more effective especially if your fishing on a bridge. They tend to leave all their trash and shit (literally) where they are fishing. I will post pic's this year on why I can't stand them. The pic's will be sad but true. No size limits no permits no respect.

Is there any place in the portland maine area to catch squid? I know that stripers were being caught on them in one river a couple years ago on squid.
