New Abu Reel
I got a new Abu 6500 levelwind reel that I am thinking about either putting 20# or 30# Fireline for plugging. Still not sure if I want to use the reel or just keep it in the box for some later date, but want it spooled just in case.

Re: New Abu Reel
It's a very conventional reel friendly braid
It's a little thicker then others of the same test but it's due to the teflon being impregnated throughout the line rather then just on the surface. This allows a birds nest (which we all get) to pull out almost as easily as if it were mono - rather then taking 45 minutes to pick it out or having to cut it out.

I don't screw up with a bird's nest like others Really sounds impressive that line from what you have stated in your reply. I have to look into it to see where I can find it

Re: New Abu Reel
I got a bulk spool of that Stealth, 50# though, and I love it on my 6500's.
The diameter is about 14# test. The manufacturer, claims 12# dia, but I think most of the time that info is untrue.
But the line is good on conventionals.
BTW, I also have the 30# Fireline on some, and have not been let down.

Re: New Abu Reel
Thanks for the information.
I was thinking about using Fireline since I have spools of them laying around. I know Sudsy mentioned the 30# stealth and now you have mentioned the 50# stealth . . . is 50# an overkill for plugging?

Re: New Abu Reel
Save the Fireline for your older spinning reels, Penn Greenies, Z's, 650/6500 series, Mitchells.......................... It's by far the best line for those, in fact it's kinda the only braided (fused) line for those.
Get the Stealth for the conventionals, 30# for plugging only, heavier if it's going to do chunking double duty

Re: New Abu Reel
No, the 50# is still quite thin and limber and casts very well. I like the heavier braid, it doesn't dig in as much, and if it does, it seems easier to pull out. I eel as well, with some of my 6500's.
Now I'm not talking about birds nests. ,

Jimmy that is something to think about . . . I am thinking with the levelwind I would not be able to weave the line from digging into the spool. That is a good point you have made about the line diameter

Sudsy,
You wrote 'Berkley Stealth'. Can't find it advertised. Did you mean SpiderWire Stealth?

Re: New Abu Reel
Hi Guys,
It's been awhile since posting any responses or replys.
About 2 months ago my Tackle guy floored me.
He said stop by and check out a new top secret Abu.
I rushed over and he showed me the hottest Abu
It has all the features that Abu lovers crave for
Hi -Speed, Line Out Alarm, Mag Cast Control and
Non -Levelwind and less than 15 ozs.
He said that he only ordered a few and I suggested
That he should buy as many as available because
It's so ironic that when I called Abu U.S.A
They denied the existence of this reel.
Somewhat tempted to send them a picture
Any one interested call me at 646 -369 -9570
He only has about 4 left
