Default Let's see your biggest Hudson River striper!

Just curious to see some personal bests from my fellow fisherman and the stories behind them. The photo I've attached is actually my father and his (our) best fish. I like to take credit for the catch because I had to twist his arm to stay on the water that day. We had a lousy morning jigging for bait and decided to hit the river with the 3 herring that we had. I think he got a little frustrated in our struggle for herring and set the morning off on a bad foot. Luckily for us, I spotted an old high school friend (and River Basin Sports shop record holder!) fishing in the same area as us. I shot him a text to see what his plans were and he mentioned he was heading to shore during slack tide to scap up some bait. I asked him if he could spare us a few herring if he had success netting them, and without hesitation he agreed to take care of me. Before the tide turned we cruised to shore and collected a few herring from my friend, at which time I asked my dad what he wanted to do next. His response was "go back to the dock" in a grumpy tone. I told him that wouldn't be right after this guy caught bait for us. I manned the wheel of the boat and proceeded to set up on what I thought was a good spot judging by bottom contours and depth. All my dad had to do was drop the anchor and cast a line or three. In about 20 minutes he was fighting his trophy bass and biggest fish of his life. She was 42" and a fat 37.5lb!!! On the way in I said "aren't you glad I twisted your arm" and he just smiled. It was a great moment I'll never forget and I'll always be proud of. When I went to net the fish, I actually missed cuz it was nearly too big for the net, and my dad nervously screamed at me. Haha. If i knocked it off the hook I don't think he would have gone fishing with me ever again.

This was a double from last year before work one morning last year. The third pole went too but I was by myself and lost it. One was 43"and the other was 32". I didnt weigh them because I had to get them back in the water.

Doc you don't mess around! I have a ton of pics on a computer with a fried motherboard. The hard drive is good I just need to recover my fish photos folder! You fish the Newbergh area frequently, correct? This year will be tough for me. I took a job promotion that has moved me out to Connecticut and I'm currently in training, and my new job goes official on the 18th of April. I have the 11-17th off but the main goal there is to move. I've been living in a hotel room for about 8 weeks away from my wife and family. Terrible timing and I'm not really sure how much river time I'll get this season. Awfully depressing really but the pay raise was nothing to shake a stick at. Had to do it. I'm going to live my season through the members on this board, and cross my fingers for successful trips when I manage to get on the water. I'll be overwhelmed with jealousy once all the 2016 pics and reports start going up. :(

If you are anywhere near the Connecticut River......drop your line in there.....plenty of Striper to be caught. I will fish from Catskill to Cormwall this year.....gonna try to learn different parts of the River.

I intend on fishing some of the rivers around here, Although use of herring is not allowed. And it won't be the same without my father in the boat with me. Just a whole new learning curve ahead of me.

I actually have a folder full of different tag results. It's really cool seeing how they have grown and how far they've traveled. This one was tagged at 39.25" in Nantucket in 2009.
