Default Choosing the fly

I have started my spring fly tying sessions for the Summer and spring stripers.

I was wondering what the preference might be for Maine stripers. While I usally turn to surf candy or a deceiver variant, I have started giving some thought to Cinder worm patterns.

Last night I tied up my own variation with some red, and some white with black heads.

I can't find any good online info about real cinder worms though. Where do they hatch and what do they "do with their lives"?

i have never been into a hatch and if you are fortunate enough to experince it it is one of the hardest bites. you have to get the size right but placing the fly into a gulping feeding frenzy i hear is frustrating and although i'm no expert, i have several fly;s for this and the one i like (which is a LITTLE large) is a chenile one i tied and just tied it to a 1/0 hook and that;s it. but have epoxy /maribou combo and a few others but never got to use em with the exception of dredging em like a sand eel.

On the water magazine had a TV show on FSN on the hatch in Massachusetts waters last week.
The cinderworm aka clam worm is found near muscle and clam beds.
Warm water and High tides is what triggers the hatch.
High 60's and moon tides.
Somewhere between May and August. Peak for the week of the June full moon.
Its over in a few days and if the weather is lousy its missed entirely some years.

Selection includes:

BeastMaster - BeastMaster General - Soft Hackle Streamer - Striper Slider -Gartside FishHead realistic small - Sand/Eel Silversides Gartside - Double Gurgler
7 flies Price: $32.00 Quantity: 7 up and down This is the selection that I use regularly in my striper fishing classes that I conduct during the season. It contains flies that imitate or suggest baitfish commonly found in Boston Harbor, Cape Cod waters, and throughout the Northeast. Included in this selection are streamers large and small, long and short, full-bodied and slender, fast-sinking and slow-sinking, and one new Double Gurgler for fishing the surface whenever stripers or other game fish are working the top or whenever you want to bring them up from below.

spratto,
If you like tying you should get in on the fly swap. It gives you a good reason to wrap some thread, plus you will get a variety of different patterns back.
