Got out up by troy last night, didn't manage to jig any herring in the hour and a half I had until dark. People I talked to earlier had managed to get some, but seemed to be hard to find.
I think I saw you last night up there; do you have have a ahi sabiki rod and a greenish-brown hobie? Anyway, the herring were there as we marked a lot more then we caught. Long drifts thru the channel worked for us and red outfished greeen 3 to 1.
We also got a few herring in the river in Albany in the main channel. Again, marking some big schools moving through.
Bill, were u up at the dam yesterday around 11:00, saw 1 yaker in a brownish colored yak,i was in a camo wrapped lund jigging bait near u, if that was u, anyway got my limit in two short drifts, small red hook sabiki, always out fishes all sizes and colors, I've used them for years and it always catches more bait
By the way, if anyone had some doubt about the DEC checking people netting in tributaries, they definitely are. Soo...I guess either get some sabiki rigs, or stick to the main river with nets!
went out last night from 3:30 to 6:30. drifted from 378 bridge to I90 bridge and caught 1 herring by accidently snagging it. Thant was at 6:30pm. Threw it back and went home. Guess the warter has to clear up. confused.gifIDK
First day catching easy herring from the main river yesterday. Even managed a big shad from shore. I'd have to assume the stripers are following closely.
Caught fresh and chunked yesterday. Males were filled with milk inside
