Talking Wellfleet, Cape Cod

Hey I am heading down to wellfleet. I was wondering if anybody knows some good fishng spots down there and what I can expect to be catching. I was thinking about some shore fishing and maybe some boat fishing depending on time. Just want to know what I should be bringing down other than my poles. Any help would be great.

Bay side temps are too hot right now to catch anything from land I would have to say. If you have a boat you could head out of rock Harbor in Orleans and try to get out to deeper water and work umbrella rigs to get to bass. unfortunately the skinny water on the bay side is up around 70 degrees and tough fishing.

In the harbor there are people taking Blues last I checked the pogies were in. I haven't heard much about the ocean side. Other than the water temps are warm.

Stop in to see Paul at Black Beards and buy some gear he will have more up to date info.

Jackbass pretty much summed it up. I was down there Aug 2-9 anada the fishing (from boat) was slower than past years up at Race point. Billingsgate shoal the report is the stripers are deep in about 60 ft of water. Tube and worm or umbrellas are catching them. My friend Paul is there from 9th thru this coming Sat. He has been mainly looking for Tuna but has been disappointed in the action while looking for fluke, stripers and Blues. They are around but very spotty and seems to be smaller in the bay this year.

I guess if I was forced to fish from shore I would go to Race point or maybe off the southern coast of Harwich and Chatham at night with eels.

Good luck!!

Lots of blues in Wellfleet harbor if you have any interest in catching them (I found some last weekend). The backside beaches have cooler water but you need to find spots without mung weed. If you charter a boat I recommend the Empress out of Rock Harbor. The captain and crew are really nice and they know their stuff. Just keep in mind they mostly fish wire line with jigs. We limited out in 2 hours with them last time I took them out. Good luck!

From the shore you may have luck if you head out on dead low at the Meadow and keep walking try to get to deeper water you may have some luck. Your best bet is on a boat out to Billingsgate and deep water.
