Launched out of Newburgh at 7:10 am. There was a breeze, but the water was fairly flat. We ran up to Marlboro and fished the east side (across from the marina). I had never fished up that way. The breeze and current carried us quickly south and towards the east shore. We marked a lot of fish, but had very few bites. I had one runoff that almost took my pole into the water. When I picked up the rod, there was a fish there, but then when I started to fight the fish, it was quickly gone. After no more bites, we moved south to our usual haunts that are south of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge on the east side, around Bannerman's, and Plum Point with the same results. We marked more fish in Marlboro, but it didn't seem to matter because the results were the same. Most fish were marked between 18 and 35 feet.
I know it's still a bit early. The water temperature was between 54 and 57 degrees. As it warms, I expect fish to feed a bit more. Good luck everyone.

Went out this morning until about 11:30. No bait but lots of bigger fish scattered. Water visibility about 1-2 inches. Very disappointing conditions right now. Hopefully the cloud cover will last until the water clears. Otherwise itíll heat up quickly. Good luck and watch out for the debris. Can only see the floating stuff.

Been out a few days but we managed to do well. Friday we toughed out the wind...which sucks for fishing.....and managed 10 up at Norrie Point all in the mid 20s. Sat was way better and we ended up with 29 mostly around 25-28 inches. Most of those were up in Norrie Point to the Esopus Lighthouse in the channel. At night we anchored up outside Wappingers Creek and landed 2 nice fish...37 and 39inches..one on a sand and one on an eel..we had a few run offs that we did not get. Sunday which I thought was gonna be nice ended up a windy nightmare but we again toughed it out for 12 up to 33 inches. We kept moving from Wappingers Creek to Milton to try to avoid the wind. Monday was perfect for fishing.....overcast, slight drizzle at times, zero wind and we ended up with 37. In the morning Norrie Point was absolutely off the hook with all rods going....I had to leave but my buddy stayed and picked up 115 fish from 6am to noon. Then in the evening the Milton stretch lit up with huge fish....we ended up with a bunch of high 30in fish up to 25 lbs. I had been seeing the marks there all day and it wasn't until the tide slowed and switched to Flood that they became active. Water temps held steady between 55-57 degrees all weekend. I will post pics when I find time to get them off my camera.

The bite has been much better when the currents are not moving as fast...basically the start and end of Flood and early Ebb.....Overall the bite has not been good on the Ebb tide.

The place to be today was between Roger's Point and Esopus Lighthouse as it was absolutely on fire. There was a constant flow of fish in the channel with some very thick schools....for the number of fish the bite was still down but we roughed out the rain and ended up with 62 total for the day up to 39" with several in the 30 inch range and lots of good keepers in the 26-28" range. We had tried Marlboro Bay up to Poughkeepsie until about noon on the flood tide and there were very few fish that would not bite so we ran North to Norrie for the Ebb tide. The bite was decent until the tide was moving > 1.5mph then it slowed significantly....as the Ebb slowed down to slack the number of fish schooling up drastically increased and the bite took off....at time all 9 of our rods went and was a serious chinese fire drill. The weather was not bad either....basic drizzle/clouds all day which seems to be the best bite with only about an hour of heavier rain. Water temps held at 56 again which is good to keep things slow. These fish seem to be circling around btw Roger's and the Esopus lighthouse waiting for females to spawn. At dusk we again checked the Milton to Marlboro stretch and again I was surprised at the lack of fish..although what we did see were pretty sizeable. A day of work tomorrow the 4 straight days without coming off the water. Tight lines.

I managed to get out Sunday May 2nd on a solo trip. I was able to catch a 7lber and 9lber. Outgoing tide and wind in the morning wasn't ideal but happy with these two.

Got out Thursday late afternoon. Motored up north past Norrie and had pretty much blank screens. We decided to head back south and setup just north of the walkway. Boated 2 in the first 10 minutes and the steady hits from small to keeper sized males that are hitting aggressively. We got a nice 39" cow towards the end of the evening.

Oh yeah and to all those people out there that wish they knew more and we have all been there......the tip of the month that I can say is don’t be afraid to slice the head off of one of your fish and it’s still wiggles when you drop it in.
