Epic weekend for April on the Hudson with 66 more Stripers hitting the deck. The fishing is exceptional for April and the big one are here. Today we landed an nice 41" 30lb cow. She did not hit hard either...small tap and a slow run. Flood tide produced the best bite and today we caught them deeper...around 24-30 ft as opposed to the usual 15-18 ft. Water temps again were 55 degrees. We fished Milton to Poughkeepsie.

Great start of the 2021 season. Caught a bunch of 25-30 inch males that are hitting like freight trains. The fish got bigger at the end of the flood tide and closer to the east side of the river. Ended the day with a 42" 32 pounder. Hope to get out again tonight after work.

I fished the early part of the Super Pink Moon last night. The bite was ok with a bunch of 24" to 28" fish. The amount of fish moving through was solid screens for nearly an hour. Fish were moving but not really feeding. What goes north must come south!! (can't get pics to rotate??)

Still good fishing for this early in the season......yesterday and today we put another 40 in the boat......the fish have been traveling the east edge of the channels and not tight to the east shore as they usually do....they are still running deeper.....when we get them to bite its usually at the 24-30 ft depth...again not the typical 15-18. Lots of 26-30 in males today that were very hard fighters. Back out again tomorrow...I will post pics when I download them off my camera...water temps today hit 55 just south of the Poughkeepsie bridge which is where we got most of our fish.

Jigged a couple herring at the dam on Friday from shore, then went on the boat all day saturday. Loads of people out, beautiful day to be on the water. Marked several schools of herring but they came and went. If we were fast enough to drop our rigs down when they were there we would pick one up but lots of casts and nothing most of the day.

One 23'' striper on chunk. Fought pretty well. One guy next to us caught what appeared to be a 30+ inch fish on live herring.

This, and next weekend should be great if we don't get too much rain over the next couple days.

Fished the Ravena to Schodack stretch last night, couldn't find any herring. Water temp was just below 50. Managed to catch and release a couple 19-20" fish trolling crankbaits.

62 more Stripers hit the deck the last 3 days...........the bite has been best on the Flood tide and tide switches.....they have not been very active during the Ebb tide as they are traveling for the most part and not interested in feeding. This week we got some nice cows up to 37"/25 lbs...fatties. Water temps today hit 58 in Poughkeepsie and Milton. Most of the fish have been on the east side of the channel and hitting in the 22-28 ft depth range. The good bite should continue for a few days after this full moon.

Good day on the river South of POK on Wednesday. Still nothing in the boat over 30" yet :-( But some of those 26-27" males are fun to catch.

The bite improved today and the stripers are hitting harder....we boated another 37 up to 38. Interesting today is they were only actively feedining at the tide switch when the current was 1mph or less. Water temps help at 55. We saw some spawning today and many times several followed the hooked one to the boat. Back out at 4am to beat the winds tomorrow.

Minimize Exposure to Air
Keep fish in the water at all times or as much as possible.
Consider using a dehooker device to release the fish without removing it from the water.
If you must handle a fish, make sure your hands are wet, hold it horizontally and firmly, and support its weight under the belly.
Avoid dragging fish through the sand when surf fishing.
Never hold a fish by its eyes or gills.

Did anyone give it a try in the wind machine yesterday? Was tempted but decided to wait it out...
