What type of baits are you using them for?
I like 7/0 for large bunker cut baits and 10/0 for heads.

There's a technique for using circles - don't ever set the hook, just point the rod to the fish and gently but firmly and smoothly lift when you feel the weight

I like the gap between the point of the hook and the shaft to be at least equal to the width of the jawbone (where it hinges) of the fish I'm trying to catch. I rarely use less then 8/0, sometimes up to 10/0 but it really depends more on the design of the hook.

I believe I read somewhere here on the forum that
Ceely's Bait Bucket (914-534-3495) New Windsor had sold them.

Maybe call them and see. I also remember one of the regulars saying that they had spotted bunker up close to the freshwater line some years its up further than others. I think Poughkeepsie is the traditional salt-line although someone who's in the know for sure will give you the rundown for certain.

I like to use a 5/0 Gamagatsu lightwire circle for live herring. I hook them through the roof of their mouth out the soft spot in their forehead. It seems that if you use one too big, eventually it will twist and turn into the bait not allowing for a hookup. I might try a tip this year that I got a couple of years back. It involves taking a small zip tie and putting it through the nostrils. Before you sincg it down all the way you insert your hook point side up then tighten the zip tie the rest of the way and trim the end.

We use 6/0 & 7/0 ... hook up ratio has been good for us.
