Default Some Questions

Hi. Im new to striper fishing. I fish alot but have never cought a striper till last year by mistake I cought a 17 inch one. Well now I want to catch a big one. I dont know much about striper fishing so I have a few questions. I want to use my boat which is a normal pleasure boat 19' Renken with a 75 horse engine. Doesnt like to go slow so trolling is out. I wanna do the sit and fish thing. So my question is what is the best line to use on my poll? How do I set up the rig? What is the best bait to begin with? When is the best time to start trying to catch em I live in Kingston, NY What time and month should I start trying. I can go to poughkeepsi area. I have a real good fish finder the Humminbird 797C2 With Side Scan Sonar and Down Imaging.

Also a couple of boating law questions.

My buddy is always asking me if he can bring beer on the boat I tell him no because I dont know the legal answer to the question? I know you cant drink and operate the boat but can passengers have beer?

Sorry for all the questions I am new and really wanna catch one this year.

Default Re: Some Questions

I,ll give you a little FFF33. My son and I fish like this reels are Penn jigmasters and Delmars but any reel that holds 200 yds or more of 20 to 30 lb test mono will do. Six or seven foot rods rated for such lines we use Gander Mtn. muskie rods. We fish with bait, live herrin 90% of the time fresh cut herrin the rest. We rig like this 1st 1 to 4 oz egg sinker then barrle swivel then about two feet of 40lb leader and 5/0 to 10/0 J hook, we use musta bait hooks cheap and strong. We fish current that slopes to the channel. We live line with the spool free and the clicker on when the reel goes zzzzzzzzzz WAIT for a five count and hold the spool set the hook and engage the reel your drag was preset so hold on till you can gain line back keep line tight no need to pump. It's that easy. Tight Lines FFF33

Default Re: Some Questions

The brews are alright to have. Just make sure that the captain of the vessel is not intoxicated and driving the boat or you will be in cuffs
