We've been seeing fish here in Maine for a couple weeks now so you'll definitely have fish in/around Boston on Memorial Day weekend. If you feel confident with plugs I say go for it. I've been throwing out lures for years now but never really got much into the when/where/how and why's of them until this season. I caught my first Maine striper (from shore) on a bucktail jig the other day utilizing techniques I've read about/practiced/seen from other anglers and it was very rewarding knowing they paid off. IMO there is nothing wrong with soaking a chunk of mackerel or floating a couple sandworms either, but do whatever it is you feel most comfortable with. Hell, soak bait AND throw plugs at the same time if ya wanna maximize your chances. Good luck man, hope ya get into them when ya arrive.

The bass are definitely in the Boston area. I fish with a boat and we've been getting keepers on live macs starting a few weeks ago. I'm sure if you fished from shore you could also get into them. Take a ferry to the islands and you'll have a blast without the crowd.
