I just cracked an ugly stick in half throwin a bunker chunk. All I ever used to recommend specially for the beginner. Now I go to Tica and Tsunami specifically a pole for chunkin bait. Med to heavy. I use 10 foot but I have many 8's and 9's and a 6 1/2 Penn standup for boat fishin.
Lami is the way to go for plugs.

I dont surf fish much anymore, but I have a pair of 10' uglies hanging in the rafters with a pair of old Penn coffee grinders on them.

For the boat, my everyday conventional is 6' or 6 1/2' lamiglass rods that i built myself.

My spinners are like wise lamiglass or "s" glass customs of the same size, anything bigger than that is a PITA,they snatch things out of the boat when you try to cast!

I like lamiglass to. I have been using lamiglass for 45 years or more. I still have the same rods. I have one that I rebuild at least 4 times. I only saw 1 lamiglass break in all those years. My buddy was showing me how good they were. He took the tip in one hand and the butt in the other and touched they together . He said how do you like that. Then he went to the closet to put it away and closed the door on it  broke the tip clean off.
